We use micro hydroxyapatite (mHAp) which is rod-shaped because its geometry closely resembles the natural crystal structure of tooth enamel, which allows it to sit more naturally against the tooth surface and support the mineral-replenishing process. This shape also helps it settle into and occlude exposed dentinal tubules — the microscopic channels linked to sensitivity.

Most “natural” toothpastes skip a remineralising ingredient altogether, which means they may clean your teeth but don’t actively repair or strengthen them.

Hydroxyapatite, a mineral that makes up about 97% of tooth enamel, fills that gap.

It works by binding to the surface of the teeth & replenishing lost minerals, helping to rebuild & smooth enamel, reduce sensitivity, and protect against decay.

In contrast, a toothpaste without a remineralisation agent can leave enamel vulnerable to erosion (acid wear) and damage over time.

Packaging is something we've considered carefully throughout the development of Bare.

Our priority was creating packaging that keeps the toothpaste stable, hygienic and protected from contamination, while also being practical and safe for families to use every day. 

Our tubes use an ABL (Aluminium Barrier Laminate) construction, where a thin aluminium barrier sits between layers of food-grade polyethylene (PE). The aluminium provides an excellent barrier against oxygen, light and moisture, helping to protect the formula and extend shelf life while using less plastic than a standard all-plastic tube.

This type of packaging is widely used across the cosmetic, pharmaceutical and oral care industries because it offers a balance of product protection, hygiene, durability and practicality. The innermost layer that comes into contact with the toothpaste is a thin food-grade PE film, as the product cannot be in direct contact with aluminium. While this means the product isn't completely plastic-free, the ABL construction significantly reduces the amount of plastic used compared with conventional plastic tubes.

Like all packaging, it's a balance between product safety, performance, environmental impact and accessibility. We continue to follow advancements in packaging technology and are always open to more sustainable options as they become practical for products like ours.
